Champagne

Bubbly Meetup

Tis the season for merriment, and one of my favorite commercials this time of year is the Korbel champagne commercial where the cork explodes and you hear “dance with me across the ocean floor, sail away to heaven’s open doors…” The name of this song is “The Mating Game” by Bittersweet. (They have some great music! For 35 days, Starbuck’s is featuring 35 bands nationwide to be a part of their download of the day. Go into any Starbuck’s and ask them for Bitter:Sweet’s Nicole Conte remix of “Heaven” and you will receive a cute little card with their pic on it that entitles you to the free download.)

I recently had an opportunity to try some amazing champagnes at a free tasting last week at Paul’s in Friendship Heights, DC. I found out about this event through meetup.com. I was looking to expand my circle of girl friends and heard about this website that matches your interest with others in the area. I found a group called the Little Black Dress Club. They have their own website with over female 250 members. They are a group of adventurous and interesting women, ranging in age from early 20s to 50s, who want to make new friends and have some great experiences together.

It was a little awkward walking into a liquor store looking for a group of women who I didn’t know. But, it was full of people who were walking around with their tasting glasses with smiles on their faces. Most of the people there were older (60′s and up). (More single men who are in their 20′s -40′s should consider a champagne tasting to meet single women.)

I quickly found my group and joined in. Because it was so crowded, we didn’t get to talk much, but made our way to the three tasting areas. Champagne has never been a favorite of mine, I have only tasted a limited few. After tasting $140 bottle and a $10 Proseco that was not sweet(!), I found a champagne I really liked, Piper Heidsieck Demi-Sec Cuvee Sublime. The best description is “it’s a tantalizing demi-sec, bursting with pastry and brioche flavors accented by notes of CARAMEL and vanilla.” I bought a bottle to toast our new president and my birthday.

After the champagne tasting, our group of six ladies decided to have dinner at a nearby restaurant. It was interesting to see the dynamic of a diverse group of women. I was the newest member, others had just joined and been to another event and two of the founders, Jenn and Christine rounded out the group. Topics of conversation were men, wine, travel, career and food. We later spent some time talking one on one as we listened to some fabulous spanish guitar. I found one of the women’s mother lives in the same city as mine and Jenn liked our SingleTease idea so much she later bought SingleTees for herself and her single friends!

I really enjoyed my evening, met some new friends and tried something different. One of the many benefits of being single, is the option to explore. Here’s to enjoying the possibilities!

Btw, you can start your own Little Black Dress Club. Check out their site for details.

meeting new people is always hard, especially girlfriends can be one of the hardest things to do.
And speaking of champagne, we’ll have to do our own tasting together when you get here for New Years. Watch out everyone Tamera and I will be together for New Years, expect a story or two and some photos for sure!

I just learned the correct way to open a champagne bottle. Slowly uncork the bottle to keep the bubbles inside the bottle and in your glass. You do not want the cork to explode, all the bubbles escape when you do this!

Hey Tamera – It was so great to meet you..And to go out dancing again the next night! I wore my boyscouting tee for the first time shopping yesterday. I’m sure it will be more effective when I don’t have to wear a fleece over it! But the cashier at Ann Taylor recognized it because she bought one for a friend.
Have a Great New Year’s Eve and invite all your women friends to our launch party on January 30th!
